The Mighty Salmons go down to 14 men during the first cup game of the season, but didn't give up with out a fight.

Lightwater played with serious heart and commitment through the first round of the Surrey Cup, coming back from a 17-0 deficit to narrowly lose in the closing minutes of the game.

Unlike the normal Lightwater, the team was caught napping in the opening half to go down by 17 points. Kingston looking strong and organised, where as Lightwater couldn't capitalise on the opportunities they created as well as having an uncharacteristic lack of organisation in defence. Some could say this is due to the moving of a centre into the back row or the defence master 'waftasaurusrex' - presumably nursing his injuries using frozen frubes.

After a stern team talk, Lightwater hit back and started to look dangerous in attack as well as being more organised in defence. Constant probing at the Kingston defence from the well oiled Lightwater pack and with as some would say 'unnecessary support lines' saw The Major cross the line for his first of three tires of the game.

Through the hard fort game, injury hit Lightwater with 4 of our 17 match day squad retiring form the field, but in true spirit, the team continued to solider on and keep up the same intensity with only 14 players.

Outrageously and what is deemed a tyre flipping punishment, a Kingston player fell for a Batty dummy which left a space big enough for the bouldering number 8 to exploit and cross the line for his first try of the season. Apart form this moment of success, he was capable of striking Antiques Roadshow in the face with his boot whilst trying to complete a fantastic clearing kick. The lesson has been taught that the clearing kick should be left to the number 9 shirt after a 2 meter gain from an up and under.

Jealous that his normal centre partner had been placed into the forwards pack, Hugh wanted a piece of the action. He took it upon himself to start clearing out rucks for turnover ball, all be it coming in form the side, arms flailing and causing injury to the opposition. Some would call this an old school clear our or truly magical, but these weren't the words that came form the referees mouth.

Lightwater battled hard throughout the game to keep Kingston at bay for periods but with the extra man on the field and with the early lead, Lightwater were not able to catch Kingston. The players did the club proud with a great performance and never let their heads drop throughout the game. Full time 38-31.
